Do you make money from doing this?
No, we do take donations though if you like what we do. We use money raised from donations to make flyer’s and other materials and the rest will be given to our favourite grassroots activist groups.
Can I put and album out on your label?
Yes, just send us the full MP3 album with artwork and if you have a favourite campaign group we can ask that people donate to them in return for your free album. You must sign a release form to say you agree that you wont be making any money and you give us permission to release it onto the masses. At the moment we are only releasing punk, ska, folk, hxc, trash and hiphop although we do hope to be releasing stuff from other genres soon enough (sorry).
Who owns the rights to the music on your site?
The original artist does (unless their record label does), we retain no ownership, in fact we hate the idea of music being owned by anyone. That’s why we set up FAR! All music on the site is covered under the Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Creative Commons licence.
Can you use one of our tracks on a compilation?
Yes most probably, although we get loads of requests to add tracks so it might not be on the next release but be patient and we will get it on a future release!
Can you do a compilation for our activist group?
Yeah no problem, however we need to you to help us out by contacting bands and telling them that you want to use one of their tracks.
What sort of music do you allow on the label?
The music can be anything, providing it does not violate our moral code (see the about us page for details). Sorry Nazis maybe you could spend time attempting suicide instead of making music, something we would gladly help out with.
Can we choose where the donations for our release go to?
Yes, to an extent. We only support activist groups. No political parties. No organisations that violate our ethical code. Ask us before hand if you don’t think we won’t accept.
What if we don’t have a specific place we want our donation to go to?
Simple, we put it in a pot and every three months we distribute it between our list of campaign groups.
What if we put out a release on your site and change our mind?
That sucks, but sometimes things change and we will remove you from our site the second we recieve your email. We will remove links to any direct download of the album and related artwork. However if the album is available on torrent that is going to impossible to be recalled.
You haven’t answered my question…
